Article 1:

Our Difficulty: 4/5

So this is one of the things we have been wondering for a long time now. But finally, we have found out how to make ice go clear! Also we’ve discovered that when the ice goes clear, it doesn’t melt as quickly! Clear ice is used in ice sculptures so they don’t melt as quickly and so they look amazing when they are clear. So, here is our first ever how to of many and hope you enjoy it!

You Will Need:

  • A straw
  • A container (any size)
  • A freezer
  • Water
  • Some air (your breath, etc.)

Method

Step 1: You need to get some normal water. Some people think that to make clear ice you need to use mineral water, but no! It’s actually the method and how you freeze the ice.

Step 2: Pour your water in your container. It doesn’t matter how big or small it is, it works with any amount of water, but we do recommend using only small amounts of water as otherwise it will take a rather long time!

Step 3: So now it gets hard. To make the ice clear, you have to run air through the ice as it freezes. If you happen to have access to a massive open topped freezer, a compressed bottle of air and a pump, then you can put all the water in the freezer and turn on the pump and let it freeze. If you don’t happen to have these things (See, we’re so prepared), you can put the water in a freezer and every 1-5 minutes, blow some air through a straw into the water.

Step 4: Repeat this process until it freezes. This could take a rather long g time so make sure you are committed to doing it.

Step 5: Once frozen, take out your ice. It should hopefully be clear and now you have made your clear ice!
