A dictator dictates and creates a statement<\/p>\n\n\n\n
To induce a nation into a state of spies <\/p>\n\n\n\n
And a corrupt institution<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Not corrupt but efficient
<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Efficiency should not be mixed with feelings <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Or emotive reasoning <\/p>\n\n\n\n
But it is plain to see<\/p>\n\n\n\n
from the same seats that you and me sit<\/p>\n\n\n\n
What this idea could be or would be yet.
<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Follow orders <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Taught from across borders <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Because foreign lands will not remain foreign under a new reign or order <\/p>\n\n\n\n
That fought for the right to control the sort of<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Small aspects of life or living quarters <\/p>\n\n\n\n
But you were just following orders
<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Join the SS and progress <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Through the ranks of society and social process <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Become the subject of an empire that you can shape and subdue <\/p>\n\n\n\n
To become your vessel of success <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Join for men to marry of wives to carry <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Join to see the world and travel happy <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Knowing that you are serving your sovereign nation <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Serving your country
<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Did you join for Genocide?<\/p>\n\n\n\n
No, you joined for a better life. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
You joined for all the right reasons<\/p>\n\n\n\n
But were any of the reasons right?<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Now don’t you be so quick to judge <\/p>\n\n\n\n
it was flee or fight <\/p>\n\n\n\n
But to take flight would mean abandoning my home<\/p>\n\n\n\n
There was no end in sight.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
There was no finish line<\/p>\n\n\n\n
I joined for good money, and to see the sights<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Post me to Paris, <\/p>\n\n\n\n
To visit <\/em>france and all it carries <\/p>\n\n\n\n I was just a tourist,<\/p>\n\n\n\n I didn’t want to kill, I wanted happiness <\/p>\n\n\n\n I was only serving my country follow orders or be shot<\/p>\n\n\n\n It wasn’t one man’s wrong decision, it was a lot<\/p>\n\n\n\n Some say that I was brainwashed But i don’t think i was?<\/p>\n\n\n\n I was doing what was right<\/p>\n\n\n\n For my country, for my Reich <\/p>\n\n\n\n For my friends and my family <\/p>\n\n\n\n They just wanted to be fine, more than fine<\/p>\n\n\n\n We were the chosen people<\/p>\n\n\n\n We were divine, Right? I was only following orders<\/p>\n\n\n\n I didn\u2019t march them through the snow because I wanted it for them <\/p>\n\n\n\n Did they really feel the same emotions as me?<\/p>\n\n\n\n That’s not what I was told <\/p>\n\n\n\n My orders were simple<\/p>\n\n\n\n Yes, I knew it was cold What could I have done<\/p>\n\n\n\n Started a revolution? What for fun?<\/p>\n\n\n\n See my family be driven to the death camps for what?<\/p>\n\n\n\n Where could I have run? <\/p>\n\n\n\n I was earning a living for my wife<\/p>\n\n\n\n I was protecting my son I was only following orders<\/p>\n\n\n\n To kill, or to join the slaughter <\/p>\n\n\n\n I didn\u2019t sign up for murder<\/p>\n\n\n\n I signed up out of boredom <\/p>\n\n\n\n Or to serve my country <\/p>\n\n\n\n I was told that was was the greatest thing that I could do!<\/p>\n\n\n\n Look me in the eye and say you\u2019d act differently if it was you<\/p>\n\n\n\n Because we know the truth Does that make you evil?<\/p>\n\n\n\n No! That’s not what it did to them<\/p>\n\n\n\n These were actions undertaken by more than just a few men <\/p>\n\n\n\n Does this excuse their actions? Of course not<\/p>\n\n\n\n But we must look to understand the orders that were followed<\/p>\n\n\n\n They weren’t all monsters<\/p>\n\n\n\n That’s what we forgot They just followed their orders, <\/p>\n\n\n\n And the men above them followed theirs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Maybe next time we can spot the orders<\/p>\n\n\n\n That are much more than unfair. <\/p>\n\n\n\n They were following there orders <\/p>\n\n\n\n That’s what many of them said<\/p>\n\n\n\n And this was true,<\/p>\n\n\n\n Though some did believe in the system they were part of then But Regardless <\/p>\n\n\n\n Orders were orders<\/p>\n\n\n\n Their motivations were mixed<\/p>\n\n\n\n We do not seek to forgive<\/p>\n\n\n\n But to understand and fix<\/p>\n\n\n\n Fix the problems faced by a socially constructed society<\/p>\n\n\n\n Driven to the suicide of morals and humanity These are my orders <\/p>\n\n\n\n To anyone who would care to listen <\/p>\n\n\n\n Men are capable of all hell <\/p>\n\n\n\n Next time <\/p>\n\n\n\n We will stop the orders from ever being given Part of Wilfred Kemsley’s Anthology exploring the Nature of the Holocaust, and its impact on the modern world.
